Gertrude is the victim of unrequited love:

P8190059

Gert loves the cat with every fiber of her being in ways that make her want to rush at the cat, scoop her up into her arms, and carry her throughout the house. The cat, while tolerant of Gert most of the time, does not like to be picked up and loved quite that hard.

No matter how many times the cat runs from her, Gert continues to try and pick her up. Sometimes I find Gert crouching beside my bed and peering under it, saying, "Kismet! Come on out to me, sweetie! I'm just going to love you…" It's heartbreaking, really.

The other day, she asked Gary if we could get a new cat. He asked her why, and she wailed, "Kismet doesn't love me!"

The kid needed a cat of her own.

This is not usually how cats are born:

Kitty in the making

But this is no usual cat:

Kismet riding in the basket

And this Kismet lets Gert pick her up whenever she wants:

Kismet gets love

Aw... I remember feeling precisely that way about my cat as a child. My brother was mean to the cats so they didn't trust us children. (Not that mean... he'd spin them until they were dizzy but that's the worst of it.)

I adore wooly Kismet. I daresay, it might be almost cuter than the real thing!

That's brilliant! It has a super cool anime look to it! How did you make it? Is it knitted and felted? Needle felted? Sometimes you are so clever that the jealous monster that lurks deep makes me want to hate you...but that makes me feel all lame and awful cause you're just so totally nice and cool.

I'm totally stealing this idea. Just as soon as you tell me how to do it. My cat-allergic kiddos want at least 6 cats (one of which will be named "Stupid, stupid rat creature," and another will carry the title "Shimmer.")

It's a super easy pattern that I picked up from here. The little guys knit up in a few hours and then they're felted. This was the first thing I've ever felted and it was so much fun!
